Primary Role and Responsibilities

Challenge for You

The organization is seeking an experienced Staff Design Engineer, Design Systems to spearhead the advancement and enhancement of a multi-platform design system utilized for both web and mobile applications. This position plays a pivotal role at the confluence of design, engineering, and AI-driven development, blending profound systems thinking with exceptional product design and front-end capabilities. The role involves shaping the scalability of design systems within the organization to ensure coherence, accessibility, usability, and harmony between design elements and coding practices.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

Defining and evolving the multi-platform design system for web and mobile apps.
Establishing scalable architectural systems, governance frameworks, and adoption strategies.
Designing and implementing reusable, accessible, and scalable UI components using modern front-end technologies.
Collaborating with cross-functional teams to maintain high standards of visual design, motion, interaction quality, and usability.
Partnering with Engineering on architectural decisions related to CI/CD, design tokens, tooling, and distribution infrastructure.
Leading migration efforts from legacy UI patterns to shared system components.
Enhancing design-to-code workflows by integrating tools like Figma and AI-based development platforms.
Implementing automated quality systems including visual regression testing and system auditing.
Improving developer experience and ensuring alignment between design assets and production codes.
Introducing and standardizing AI-assisted workflows to enhance design and engineering consistency.
Mentoring fellow practitioners on best practices for design system implementation.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Mandatory Skills

To excel in this role, the ideal candidate must possess:

7+ years of experience in front-end engineering, design engineering, or creative engineering.
Extensive experience in building and scaling design systems and component libraries for multiple teams or products.
Proficiency in React (Web) and React Native ecosystems.
A strong grasp of modern front-end architecture and component-driven development practices.
Expertise in design systems, typography, motion, interaction design, visual systems, and design-to-code pipelines.
Experience with AI-assisted development workflows and collaborative skills encompassing Design, Engineering, and Creative stakeholders.
Experience in driving adoption and governance of shared UI systems with a focus on scalability, consistency, and usability.

Nice to Have

Additionally, candidates with the following backgrounds will be preferred:

Experience working on consumer platforms, marketplaces, or e-commerce products.
Familiarity with Storybook, visual regression testing tools, and token management systems.
Experience translating brand systems into scalable product experiences and exposure to AI-native development workflows.
Proven experience in accessibility frameworks such as React Aria and a passion for balancing craft, scalability, and engineering efficiency.
