To take IELTS well, you should be familiar with it and the skills required to handle it successfully. IELTS is not just about general English because, according to the test takers’ performance data published on the IELTS official site, even the people whose mother tongue is English have difficulty scoring well in it (e.g. a band score of 7). This is because taking IELTS well needs some skills that are not usually practiced in general English courses. For example, in the IELTS essay writing test (Task 2), every essay type necessitates a number of points to consider, but many IELTS students do not even know that there are five different kinds of essays in the IELTS essay writing test. Thus, besides having a good command of English (i.e., being good in general English) knowing IELTS well and learning the required skills to handle every part of this test are indispensable and instrumental in scoring well in this test.
