Smart Contract / Blockchain Engineer
Company: Averiq Labs
Location: San Francisco, CA
Industry: Blockchain / Web3 Infrastructure
Employment: Full-time
About Averiq Labs
Averiq Labs is a Web3 technology company building infrastructure and decentralized systems for the next generation of blockchain applications.
We work across smart contracts, DeFi, blockchain infrastructure, protocol engineering, and developer tooling. We're looking for engineers who enjoy working close to the protocol level and solving difficult technical problems.
About the Role
We're looking for a Smart Contract / Blockchain Engineer to join our engineering team.
You'll design, develop, test, and optimize smart contracts and blockchain systems. You'll work with technologies such as Solidity, EVM, Foundry, DeFi protocols, and Ethereum-compatible networks.
This role is particularly suited to engineers who want to go beyond simply writing Solidity and understand how blockchain systems actually work under the hood.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop production-grade Solidity smart contracts
- Build and test DeFi protocols and blockchain applications
- Develop automated tests using Foundry
- Analyze existing protocols and smart-contract architectures
- Optimize contract execution and gas usage
- Research blockchain protocols and emerging technologies
- Identify and mitigate smart-contract security vulnerabilities
- Work with backend and infrastructure engineers
- Participate in code reviews and technical design discussions
- Research MEV, transaction ordering, and protocol-level mechanisms when relevant
Requirements
Required:
- Strong programming fundamentals
- Experience with Solidity or another blockchain smart-contract language
- Understanding of Ethereum/EVM architecture
- Familiarity with Git and GitHub
- Understanding of smart-contract security fundamentals
- Ability to read and understand existing smart-contract code
Nice to have:
- Foundry experience
- Experience with Uniswap, Aave, Compound, or similar protocols
- Rust, Go, or TypeScript experience
- Knowledge of EVM internals
- MEV/arbitrage experience
- Blockchain node/RPC experience
- Previous DeFi or protocol development experience
Technical Hiring Process
We don't rely exclusively on interviews.
Our hiring process is designed to evaluate actual engineering ability:
1. Application & CV Review
We review your technical background and previous projects.
2. Technical Screening
A short technical discussion covering your experience and understanding of blockchain fundamentals.
3. Engineering Project
Qualified candidates receive a practical blockchain engineering assignment.
For example, candidates may be asked to build and test a small DeFi/treasury protocol, analyze an existing smart contract, or implement a blockchain-related component.
The project evaluates:
- Code quality
- Architecture
- Solidity knowledge
- Testing
- Security
- Problem-solving
- Documentation
4. Technical Review
An engineer reviews the submitted project and discusses the implementation with you.
5. Final Interview
Discussion with the engineering team about your technical experience, interests, and potential role at Averiq Labs.
What We Value
We care more about what you can build than how many years you've worked.
We're particularly interested in engineers who:
- Build projects outside of work
- Read open-source protocol code
- Understand why systems work, not just how to use them
- Can independently investigate unfamiliar technologies
- Care about security and correctness
- Enjoy difficult technical problems
Compensation
Competitive compensation based on experience and technical ability, with additional consideration for exceptional blockchain engineering experience.
