Director - Protocol & Research Community
Polygon Labs is a software development entity focused on constructing a network of combined blockchains through the AggLayer, which is safeguarded by Ethereum. This infrastructure, known as the AggLayer, aims to unite user bases and liquidity for multiple connected chains while utilizing Ethereum as a settlement layer. The company has actively contributed to various scaling protocols and tools, such as Polygon PoS, Polygon zkEVM, and Polygon Miden, with ongoing development of Polygon CDK.
Primary Role:
In the role of Director of Protocol & Research Community at Polygon Labs, you will directly report to the SVP of the CDE Team, responsible for Community, Developer Relations, and Events. Your main duty involves leading a team of Technical Community Managers and Devrel Engineers (DREs) in establishing and nurturing a specialized community comprising Protocol Developers for Polygon. You will be instrumental in attracting top talents from Protocol Development, ZK Development, Cryptography, and Research to enrich the Polygon ecosystem. Your primary objective is to engage, support, and expand this community to complement the company's product development endeavors.
Your responsibilities will play a vital role in driving Polygon's mission to advance the AggLayer, a key zk-powered infrastructure for enhancing blockchain interoperability. You will spearhead initiatives involving innovative technologies like Chain Development Kit (CDK) and Plonky3, central to solving liquidity and fragmentation challenges in the blockchain domain. You will oversee a team of Community Managers to build a robust online community on platforms like Discord and collaborate closely with the Events team to utilize real-world events to bolster community building efforts.
Your contributions will directly influence the success and growth of Polygon's open-source projects by fostering a community that can offer valuable insights, actively engage in product development discussions, and contribute to the technological landscape.
Your Responsibilities:
- Devise and execute a tailored community strategy for Protocol Developers and Researchers in collaboration with leadership and team inputs.
- Lead and supervise a team of Technical Community Managers and Devrel Engineers to effectively implement community engagement initiatives.
- Establish clear communication channels between the community team, Product, and Engineering teams, coordinating with the Technical Docs team as required.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external communities to optimize communication flows, generate leads, and enhance community growth.
- Expand the reach of the Polygon community by forming collaborations with relevant individuals and entities in the Protocol Dev and Research sectors.
- Collect community feedback, facilitate contributions to technical documentation, and align community insights with product roadmap development in coordination with Product teams.
- Promote Polygon's products through diverse initiatives like content creation, hackathons, workshops, and building reference implementations with the support of Devrel Engineers.
- Cultivate a culture of open-source collaboration within the organization and community to encourage contributions and support.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in building and scaling technical communities within the Web3 industry with in-depth knowledge of Web3 Protocols, especially Ethereum and the Layer 2 ecosystem.
- Proven familiarity and presence within the ZK development and research community.
- Ability to develop comprehensive strategies for engaging Protocol Developers and Researchers based on a deep understanding of their requirements.
- Proficiency in managing community platforms like Discord using best practices to promote engagement, support, and incentivization.
- Strong network within the Protocol Development and Research spheres, showcasing a history of fostering collaborations.
- Past experience in managing diverse teams, possessing strong people management skills tailored to the unique dynamics in Web3 culture.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity with ease and convert high-level directives into actionable plans.
- Understanding of Open Source products and communities with a commitment to promote an OSS culture across the organization and broader community aspects.
