Role
Engineering Manager
Description

At Anchorage Digital, we are dedicated to shaping the most cutting-edge digital asset platform for institutional participation in the crypto space.

Established in 2017, Anchorage Digital is a regulated crypto platform that furnishes institutions with comprehensive financial services and infrastructure solutions. With the distinction of being the first federally chartered crypto bank in the US, Anchorage Digital provides institutions with secure custody, regulatory compliance, diverse product offerings, and exceptional client service. We are seeking to enrich our team with individuals who embody humility, creativity, and a thirst for knowledge.

Our workforce is distributed globally and accommodates remote work, with physical office options available in New York City, Sioux Falls, Porto, Lisbon, and Singapore. For those unable to access our offices easily, we promote and fund quarterly in-person collaboration days to fortify our team spirit.

The objective of an Engineering Manager is to foster the organic growth of the engineering department. As an Engineering Manager, you are tasked with participating in recruiting top-tier Engineers to sustain team expansion, guiding and collaborating with team members to facilitate their career advancement, and implementing processes conducive to a high-performance engineering team. People are the cornerstone of this organization, and as an Engineering Manager, your mission is to nurture and contribute to Anchorage’s culture, mentor and coach team members, refine our roadmap, and extend continual support in our recruitment endeavors. A desirable outcome is a team that grows, feels motivated, fulfilled, and ready to tackle the next company milestone.

You will oversee the engineering team for a burgeoning business segment within Anchorage Digital, brimming with growth potential. This segment is a strategic focus for the company and offers high visibility across the organization.

Technical Skills:

  • Craft the engineering roadmap, spearhead operational excellence, and devise a technology strategy for your team.
  • Demonstrate expertise and acumen in solving intricate and fuzzy challenges and delivering scalable solutions.
  • Concentrate on and prioritize the well-being, satisfaction, and personal/professional development of each team member.

Complexity and Impact of Work:

  • Lead a team of Engineers and be accountable for their execution quality, delivery timeliness, overall impact, and growth.
  • Take on the role of a mentor and counselor, offering coaching and feedback that elevate the skills of all team members.

Organizational Knowledge:

  • Assume responsibility for the personal and professional growth of a dedicated team.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers to delineate investments in our products, ensuring alignment between our product strategies, team bandwidth, technical landscape realities, and your team growth and structure plans.

Communication and Influence:

  • Engage with other engineering managers, product management, recruiting, and the broader engineering team to propel team growth, retention, and recruitment endeavors forward.
  • Influence not only the projects Anchorage undertakes but also who works on them, taking charge of growth planning, recruitment, and performance management for a team of Engineers.

You may align with this role if you have:

  • Proven experience managing, mentoring, and fostering the growth of a geographically dispersed team.
  • Hands-on experience building complex distributed systems. While we primarily utilize Go, proficiency in other languages can be acquired. Your engineering and management skills are of more significance than expertise in any particular language or framework.
  • Enjoy establishing services from the ground up and supporting them over a substantial period.
  • Exhibit genuine concern for code quality and test infrastructure.
  • Prioritize end-user experience and business value over mere technological novelty.
  • Possess a grasp of "computer science fundamentals," encompassing concurrency, algorithms, and data structures (Note: A formal CS degree is not obligatory).
  • Identify with a blend of attributes like creative, humble, ambitious, detail-oriented, hardworking, trustworthy, eager to learn, methodical, action-oriented, and tenacious.

Although not mandatory, advantageous qualifications include:

  • a background in the finance sector and familiarity with traditional finance settlement operations
  • professional experience with Go/Rust/TypeScript/Solidity

Compensation at Anchorage Digital:

Rust/blockchain

I am seeking a world-class Systems Engineer / Rust Architect to build a proprietary asset extraction engine on the Solana network. This is not a "Web3 App" or a "DEX UI." This is a purely backend, low-latency machine designed to capture micro-value from market volatility. The system mimics a "digital sluice," using high-precision math to harvest fractional differences that standard rounded-math bots ignore. We are scaling from a prototype to a 30-node distributed network managing 100+ concurrent execution "hands."Core Technical RequirementsLow-Level Rust Mastery: You must be an expert in the Tokio runtime, asynchronous programming, and memory-safe mathematical operations.Solana Network Physics: Deep understanding of the Sealevel runtime, custom WebSocket/Lumen bridges, and avoiding gRPC bottlenecks.Jito & MEV Optimization: Proven experience with Jito Bundles, transaction shredding, and tip-optimization to ensure first-block inclusion.Distributed Orchestration: Ability to architect a master-node system that manages 30+ regional nodes with seamless failover and zero-loss state management.Precision Math: All logic must operate on u64 integers (Lamports) to avoid floating-point rounding errors. We do not "round" to the dollar; we capture the 9th decimal.Key ResponsibilitiesEngine Hardening: Audit and optimize the core Rust logic for 0-latency execution.Node Orchestration: Build the "Master Switch" to deploy, monitor, and update 30 nodes across global regions simultaneously. The "Tax" Logic: Implement a secure, automated "sweeper" protocol that collects fractional value from all child-nodes into a master treasury without interrupting execution.Redundancy: Ensure the system is "Anti-Fragile"—if a validator or node fails, the 50-drop safety protocol must trigger an instant failover.
