Description
Job Summary:
We are in search of an experienced individual to take on the role of a Lead Technical Artist with a focus on leveraging expertise in Unreal Engine 5 to shape our game world's technical foundations. The primary responsibilities of this position involve crafting and supporting workflows for world generation, encompassing procedural nature, landmarks, resources, and island generation. Additionally, the role entails overseeing lighting and technical pipelines throughout the project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and mentorship of the Technical Art team
- Acting as a crucial liaison between Art, Design, and Engineering to ensure smooth integration of technical art workflows
- Providing senior-level hands-on expertise alongside leadership guidance
- Designing, supporting, and implementing systems for procedural world generation
- Developing and enhancing workflows for Terrain generation in Unreal Engine 5 to balance artistic direction and technical efficiency
- Prototyping and integrating innovative techniques to enhance scalability and diversity in world creation
- Leading the implementation and optimization of both Lumen-based and non-Lumen lighting setups to ensure consistent visual quality and performance on lower-end machines
- Collaboration with tech art to establish best practices for real-time lighting
- Profiling and optimizing art assets, shaders, and systems to maintain stable performance across platforms
- Defining or enhancing current performance budgets, and creating tools to assist artists in adhering to technical constraints while achieving an optimal balance between visual quality and performance
- Integrating, validating assets, and optimizing their visual performance in the engine
- Identifying and resolving complex technical issues related to rendering, memory, and load times
- Developing and managing Blueprints, scripts, and custom tools to streamline asset integration and support artists in their workflows
- Scripting custom tools in Python, C++, or utilizing Unreal's scripting systems to automate tasks and enhance the efficiency of the art team
- Offering technical guidance on environment and asset pipelines
Key Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience as a Senior/Principal Technical Artist or Lead Technical Artist in the gaming industry
- Proficiency in Unreal Engine 5 and previous versions with a minimum of 4 years of experience, particularly in environment/world workflows, Blueprints, and scripting
- Hands-on experience in PCG procedural environment generation
- Familiarity with techniques for large world island/terrain generation in Unreal
- Strong grasp of Lumen lighting/non-Lumen and performance optimization
- Sound comprehension of the Graphic Rendering Pipeline for next-gen technologies, especially Unreal Engine 5
- Experience in mentoring technical artists and facilitating cross-disciplinary collaboration
Location:
The role is fully remote, with a preference for candidates located in Asia and Europe.
