About the Role
Anchorage Digital is seeking a skilled Market Abuse Lead to establish and supervise a comprehensive trade surveillance program. This role presents a unique opportunity to develop a robust surveillance framework from scratch, utilizing regulatory knowledge to uphold market integrity and drive innovation in digital asset markets. As Market Integrity Lead - Trade Surveillance Compliance, you will collaborate closely with senior management to mold compliance strategy and act as the liaison between trading operations and regulatory obligations.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in trade surveillance methodologies, market data analysis, and regulatory reporting frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with trade reconstruction, identifying manipulative behaviors, and understanding order book dynamics.
- Essential knowledge of surveillance platforms and proficiency in handling large datasets. Coding skills (Python, SQL, or similar) are beneficial for enhancing investigative efficiency.
Complexity and Impact of Work:
- Analyzing advanced trading strategies to identify potential market manipulation patterns.
- Differentiating between legitimate trading strategies and abusive conduct in uncertain scenarios that require nuanced judgment.
- Managing multi-jurisdictional investigations, interpreting intricate regulatory requirements, and handling competing priorities in a fast-paced setting.
Organizational Knowledge:
- Strong organizational abilities required to manage concurrent investigations while meeting regulatory deadlines.
- You will be responsible for maintaining detailed case files, coordinating with internal stakeholders (trading, legal, product teams), external parties (regulators, outside counsel), and prioritizing alerts and investigations based on risk severity.
Communication and Influence:
- Translating complex trading behaviors and technical analysis into clear, concise reports for diverse audiences including senior management, legal counsel, and regulators.
- Strong verbal communication skills needed for conducting trader interviews, presenting findings to cross-functional teams, and collaborating with regulators.
- Experience in drafting investigative memos, preparing deposition materials, and presenting to attorneys is highly valued.
Candidate Qualifications:
- Extensive experience in CFTC/SEC enforcement actions and investigation procedures.
- Proficiency in surveillance systems, alert scenario development, analytical skills for identifying complex trading patterns and market abuse schemes.
- Ability to manage relationships with regulators, respond to inquiries/examinations, and build compliance programs in rapidly evolving regulatory environments.
Bonus Criteria:
- Prior experience in cryptocurrency markets and DeFi protocols.
- Background in both institutional and retail trading environments, and prior work in exchanges or trading venues.
