Description
We are looking for a skilled Material/Shader Artist to join our team working on a major Metaverse project, Seedworld, on Unreal 5.2+. As a Material/Shader Artist, you will utilize your expertise in Unreal Engine and various artistic software tools to develop and optimize shaders for assets and landscapes within Seedworld.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with the Art Department team to create shaders for assets and landscapes during the essential look development phase.
- Ensure that shader development aligns with Seedworld's artistic style.
- Develop shaders and procedural textures based on reference artwork and under the guidance of the Art Director.
- Create quality shaders for human characters and fantasy elements in line with the Art Director's vision.
- Implement shader optimization techniques for memory and frame rate constraints.
- Liaise with Art Directors, Technical Artists, and Developers to understand technical requirements and streamline pipeline efficiency.
- Research and apply new shader development techniques to enhance production processes.
- Participate actively in technical and artistic discussions and contribute to problem-solving efforts.
- Summarize work and documentation to enhance communication within the team.
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in shader development in the gaming industry, with at least one AAA game shipped on PC or console in the past 5 years.
- Proficiency in Maya, Photoshop, ZBrush, Mudbox, or similar tools.
- Strong background in shader development for Unreal Engine, including extensive experience with its shading tools and potentially development skills such as C++ programming.
Desired Qualifications:
- Extensive experience in compiling shaders within Unreal Engine.
- Solid understanding of shading, texturing, and look development from both visual and technical perspectives.
- Artistic aptitude that complements technical knowledge and enables effective collaboration with the Art Director.
- Experience with complex shaders like Water, SSS, Foliage, etc., and knowledge of OpenGL GLSL/HLSL.
- Proficiency in lighting within Unreal Engine from technical and artistic viewpoints.
- In-depth knowledge of 3D prerequisites before shaders (UV, Texture Layout) and common texturing pipelines.
- Strong communication skills, fluency in English, and keen awareness of production values and deadlines.
Bonus Skills:
- Proficiency in developing shaders in ShaderFX for Maya.
- Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, Mel, or C++ scripting.
- Experience with FX shaders.
