Key Responsibilities Regarding Technical Skills:

Act as the primary legal contact for the Portuguese entity, facilitating negotiations or mediations as required.

Design thorough legal process maps in collaboration with Compliance, identifying legal requirements and supporting risk assessments with the central Risk team.

Draft, review, and implement action plans in partnership with Compliance and Risk to address identified deficiencies within specified timelines.

Support the development of compliance strategies aligned with industry legislation for Anchorage.

Complexity and Impact of Work:

Manage the entire spectrum of legal requirements for the Portuguese entity, handling sensitive disputes and high-stakes situations.

Identify and address intricate legal risks across multiple domains affecting Portuguese operations, such as employment, corporate, technology, and tax.

Offer crucial legal support for corporate matters like mergers, acquisitions, and restructuring that impact the Portuguese entity.

Organizational Knowledge:

Develop a deep understanding of Anchorage Digital's global business strategies and products to provide tailored legal advice in Portugal.

Navigate the relationship between local regulations in Portugal, wider EU frameworks, and international laws, aiding Compliance and Risk in ensuring comprehensive adherence.

Collaborate across various teams including People, Product, Engineering, Compliance, Risk, and Finance to seamlessly integrate legal requirements.

Communication and Influence:

Communicate complex legal concepts and risks effectively to non-legal stakeholders at all organizational levels.

Influence internal stakeholders to adopt compliant practices and implement mitigation strategies in a respectful and persuasive manner.

Foster strong relationships with external legal partners and internal teams in Legal, Compliance, and Risk.

Qualifications and Experience Highlights:

Must hold a Portuguese legal qualification (Ordem dos Advogados registration) with substantial post-qualification experience in corporate, labor, or regulatory law, preferably within financial services or technology.

Demonstrated proficiency in navigating complex compliance landscapes including expertise in data protection (e.g., GDPR), anti-money laundering (AML), and other financial regulations.

Proven track record of identifying legal risks, translating legal requirements into implementable plans, and driving their execution in a dynamic setting.

Strong contract drafting, review, and negotiation skills encompassing a variety of agreements with strict adherence to industry-specific compliance needs.

Possess an agile problem-solving mindset, passionate about crafting robust legal frameworks, and contributing to a pioneering global crypto company.

Main Responsibilities:

Review the legal documents of corporate clients and their associates

Monitor personal workload and promptly escalate significant risks or issues to senior management

Foster and maintain strong relationships with Relationship Partner Teams, clients, and stakeholders to gather required evidence for KYC due diligence

Engage in both 2-eyed and 4-eyed customer due diligence processes

Engage in relevant internal and external training programs on AML/CFT and other pertinent subjects

Act as the primary contact for queries related to Periodic Reviews

Coordinate with various departments and teams to ensure seamless review processes

Collaboration with Key Account Managers (KAMs) for VIP and Broker accounts to resolve review-related issues

Contribute to process enhancement endeavors for improved efficiency and effectiveness

Manage general administrative tasks associated with the mentioned functions in line with company requirements

Conduct open-source searches on regulatory status, public listings, and licensing

Perform WorldCheck screenings related to PEP, TF, Adverse Media, and ML risks

Prepare detailed risk assessments and escalation forms for senior management and MLRO, including red flags and mitigation strategies

Provide feedback on system glitches, procedural gaps, and necessary enhancements

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree or higher qualification

Minimum of 2 years' experience in corporate onboarding roles with solid knowledge of compliance regulations and affairs

Familiarity with risk assessments, periodic reviews, and enhanced due diligence

Proficient in English to effectively engage with international partners and stakeholders

Experience in reviewing high-risk KYB cases, complex profiles of Financial Institutions and Broker clients

Preferred certifications: ACAMS/CAMS/CCAS/ICA or equivalents

Strong skills in time management, organization, and relationship-building

Ability to adapt to a dynamic and fast-paced environment

Good understanding of local laws, regulations, and standards relevant to subject persons

Knowledge of various client types like Non-Operating/Asset Holding Companies, Funds, Trusts, etc., and familiarity with multiple EEA jurisdictions is advantageous

Proficient in advising on regulatory matters relating to financial services, payments, fintech, or technology-driven settings, with a genuine interest in disruptive technology and developing regulatory frameworks.

Proven track record of translating intricate legal and regulatory concepts into practical, business-oriented advice that enables prompt decision-making by teams.

Experience guiding product and marketing compliance adherence, particularly within regulated or semi-regulated environments.

Responsibilities:

Conduct due diligence on both new and existing customers, addressing any due diligence-related issues.

Perform continuous screening for adverse media, politically exposed persons (PEP), sanctions, etc.

Identify and resolve potential matches related to adverse media, PEP, sanctions, etc., following established procedures.

Conduct global research on customers and their associates.
