Description
Material Artist | Seedworld
We are looking for an experienced Material/Shader Artist to join the team working on the groundbreaking Metaverse project, Seedworld, using Unreal 5.2+. In this role, you will utilize your expertise in Unreal and various artist software tools (Substance Painter, Designer, Zbrush, etc.) to develop and optimize shaders for assets and landscapes in Seedworld.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with the Art Department team in creating shaders for assets and landscapes during the crucial look development phase.
- Ensure shader development aligns with Seedworld's artistic style.
- Develop shaders and procedural textures based on reference artwork and under the guidance of the Art Director.
- Contribute to producing high-quality shaders for human characters and fantasy elements that meet Art Director expectations.
- Implement shader optimization techniques for memory and frame rate constraints.
- Work with Art Directors, Technical Artists, and Developers to understand technical requirements and streamline the production pipeline.
- Research and apply new shader development techniques to enhance production.
- Create custom nodes or functions as needed for R&D purposes.
- Actively participate in technical and artistic discussions and collaborate on problem-solving.
- Document and summarize work to facilitate effective communication within the team.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of shader development experience in the gaming industry, with at least one AAA game released on PC or console within the last 5 years.
- Proficiency in software tools such as Maya, Photoshop, Z-Brush, Mudbox, or equivalent.
- Extensive experience in shader development for Unreal Engine, utilizing Node systems, Blueprints, HLSL, and potential development languages like C++.
Desired Qualifications:
- Strong proficiency in developing and compiling shaders within Unreal.
- Solid understanding of shading, texturing, and look development from both visual and technical perspectives.
- Artistic sensibility to complement technical expertise and collaborate effectively with the Art Director.
- Experience in creating complex shaders (e.g., Water, SSS, Foliage, etc.).
- Knowledge of OpenGL GLSL/HLSL and lighting within Unreal.
- Understanding of 3D requirements prior to shader development (UV, Texture Layout) and common texturing workflows.
- Ability to work efficiently, collaborate effectively, and incorporate feedback into work.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with fluency in English and awareness of production priorities and deadlines.
Bonus Skills:
- Proficiency in developing shaders using ShaderFX for Maya.
- Knowledge of scripting languages like Python, Mel, C++ scripting, and Blueprints.
- Experience with FX shaders.
