Description
We are looking for an experienced individual to join our team as a Material/Shader Artist for our groundbreaking project Seedworld on Unreal 5.2+. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in Unreal and various artist software tools to develop and optimize shaders for assets and landscapes within Seedworld.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with the Art Department to create shaders for assets and landscapes during the crucial look development phase.
- Ensure that shader development aligns with the artistic style of Seedworld.
- Develop shaders and procedural textures based on reference materials and under the guidance of the Art Director.
- Assist in creating high-quality shaders for human characters and fantasy elements that meet the Art Director's standards.
- Implement shader optimization techniques to stay within memory and frame rate constraints.
- Work with Art Directors, Technical Artists, and Developers to understand technical requirements for an efficient production pipeline.
- Research and incorporate new shader development techniques into the production process.
- Participate actively in technical and artistic discussions and problem-solving efforts.
- Document and communicate effectively about shaders to enhance internal and outsourcing communications.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of shader development experience in the gaming industry, with involvement in shipping at least one AAA game for PC or console in the last 5 years.
- 5+ years of experience using various artist software like Maya, Photoshop, Z-Brush, Mudbox, or equivalent.
- Proficiency in shader development for Unreal Engine across all shading tools.
- Familiarity with C++ programming is a plus.
Desired Qualifications
- Proficiency in shader development and compilation within Unreal Engine.
- Strong understanding of shading, texturing, and look development.
- Ability to combine technical expertise with artistic vision to work effectively with the Art Director.
- Experience in creating complex shaders such as Water, SSS, and Foliage shaders.
- Knowledge of OpenGL GLSL/HLSL and lighting within Unreal Engine.
- Solid grasp of 3D requirements before shader development, UV mapping, and texturing pipelines.
- Demonstrated organizational skills, collaborative approach, and ability to incorporate feedback effectively.
- Strong communication skills in English, with knowledge of production values, deadlines, and priorities.
Bonus Skills
- Experience with ShaderFX for Maya.
- Proficiency in scripting languages like Python, Mel, C++, or Blueprints.
- Experience with FX shaders.
