Description
We are looking for a skilled Material/Shader Artist to join the team working on an expansive Metaverse project known as Seedworld using Unreal 5.2+ software. As a Material/Shader Artist, you will leverage your expertise in Unreal Engine and other relevant artistic tools like Substance Painter, Designer, and Zbrush to create and optimize shaders for assets and landscapes within the Seedworld environment.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with the Art Department to develop shaders for assets and landscapes during the critical look development phase.
- Create shaders that align with Seedworld's artistic style and meet the vision set by the Art Director.
- Develop shaders and procedural textures based on provided references, paint-overs, and visual targets under the guidance of the Art Director.
- Produce high-quality shaders for human characters and fantasy elements in line with artistic expectations.
- Implement shader optimization techniques to meet memory and frame rate targets.
- Liaise with Art Directors, Technical Artists, and Developers to ensure efficient pipeline processes and technical specifications.
- Stay updated on new shader development techniques and incorporate them into the production workflow.
- Ability to generate custom nodes or functions as necessary for research and development purposes.
- Contribute actively to technical and artistic discussions, offering problem-solving solutions.
- Provide concise documentation of work to enhance internal and external communication within the team.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of shader development experience in the gaming industry, with at least one AAA game shipped on PC or console within the past 5 years.
- Proficiency in software tools such as Maya, Photoshop, Z-Brush, Mudbox, or similar, with at least 5 years of hands-on experience.
- Extensive shader development expertise in Unreal Engine, covering all shading tools like Node, Blueprint, HLSL, with additional Development experience being a strong advantage (C++ programming, etc.)
Desired Qualifications
- Solid experience in shader development and compilation within Unreal Engine.
- Strong understanding of shading, texturing, and look development from both visual and technical perspectives.
- Artistic acumen to complement technical knowledge and facilitate collaboration with the Art Director.
- Familiarity with crafting complex shaders like Water, SSS, Foliage, among others, and experience with OpenGL GLSL/HLSL.
- Proficiency in lighting intricacies within Unreal Engine, technically and artistically.
- Comprehensive knowledge of 3D requirements prior to shader development (UV, Texture Layout) and standard texturing workflows.
- Fast-paced, organized, collaborative, adept at handling feedback.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, fluency in English, with a solid grasp of production values, deadlines, and prioritization.
Bonus Skills
- Proficiency in developing shaders in ShaderFX for Maya.
- Understanding of scripting languages like Python, Mel, C++, and Blueprint.
- Experience with FX shaders.
