About the Role
Limit Break is seeking a Technical Director for Games to oversee our Unity engineering division on a global scale. In this integral role, you will be responsible for the implementation, performance, and advancement of Unity-based development for our mobile-first, live service games. Collaborating closely with Art, Product, Design, QA, and Platform departments, you will ensure our Unity engineers deliver top-notch, scalable, and high-performance game experiences. Taking a hands-on approach to leadership, you will concentrate on team execution, technical excellence, and fostering scalable development practices to ensure our international teams are aligned, efficient, and empowered for agile progress. Your pivotal role will involve connecting global teams, standardizing workflows, and ensuring consistency in Unity development.
Responsibilities: What You'll Do
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and overseeing a global team of Unity engineers to ensure effective execution, clear accountability, and synchronization across time zones.
- Mentoring and developing Unity engineers, integrators, and technical contributors to deliver high-quality, high-performance solutions.
- Driving best practices for Unity development, encompassing architecture, performance enhancements, scalability, and sustainability.
- Establishing and enhancing engineering workflows that facilitate speedy iteration, efficient collaboration, and reliable releases.
- Managing and advancing shared Unity frameworks, tools, and integrations to expedite development across teams.
- Collaborating cross-functionally with Product, Art, Design, QA, Platform Engineering, and Publishing to ensure seamless delivery throughout the game life cycle.
- Aligning technical strategy, priorities, and execution approaches with executive stakeholders.
- Allocating resources and planning sprints across Unity teams to optimize delivery and manage priorities effectively.
- Ensuring code quality through robust testing procedures, code reviews, and continual enhancement of engineering standards.
- Cultivating a culture of high performance, accountability, and collaboration within a globally distributed engineering team.
Requirements: Your Background
Ideal qualifications include:
- Over 12 years of experience managing development teams involving Unity Engineering while collaborating with cross-functional units like Product, Technical Art, Design, and QA.
- Proven track record as a director or senior leader in engineering within the mobile gaming sector.
- Proficiency in leading and scaling Unity engineering teams in a distributed global environment.
- Strong technical acumen in Unity and client-side game development.
- Hands-on involvement with live service games, focusing on performance optimization and content updating pipelines.
- Demonstrable success in enhancing engineering workflows, team efficiency, and delivery speed.
- Experience setting up and maintaining engineering best practices, encompassing code quality and KPI tracking.
- Familiarity with working across multiple time zones and managing globally distributed teams.
- Effective collaboration skills, adept at working harmoniously with Product, Art, Design, QA, and Platform teams.
- Sound knowledge of agile development practices and iterative, hypothesis-driven development.
- Exceptional communication and leadership skills with a focus on clarity, accountability, and team development.
Compensation:
- The base salary range for this position is $250,000- $350,000 annually based on experience, skills, and relevant factors.
