The Finance Director position entails the comprehensive financial management of a regulated payment institution in Brazil, encompassing both traditional banking and digital asset operations. This role merges the duties of a CFO within a Banco Central do Brasil-regulated payment institution with the oversight necessary for a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP).
The Finance Director will supervise all financial, accounting, treasury, regulatory reporting, and operational finance functions while ensuring strict compliance with Brazilian banking regulations and evolving crypto regulatory standards. The incumbent will need to be actively engaged in daily financial operations, payment flows, fiat and crypto liquidity management, and the maintenance of financial reporting accuracy across traditional and blockchain-based systems.
This role is integral to the executive leadership team, requiring collaboration with the local General Manager, regulators, banking partners, and internal operational teams to uphold stringent financial control, transparency, and regulatory adherence within the institution.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the company's financial strategy, including planning, budgeting, forecasting, and performance management.
- Oversee controllership, accounting, and financial reporting for accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with relevant accounting and regulatory standards.
- Serve as the primary financial liaison with regulators to ensure conformity with financial and prudential reporting criteria stipulated by the Banco Central do Brasil (BCB) and other relevant bodies.
- Manage treasury operations, liquidity, cash positioning, and banking relationships to ensure financial resilience and operational stability.
- Supervise the financial governance of fiat payment operations, covering key payment mechanisms such as PIX, bank transfers, payment processors, and banking partners to maintain appropriate reconciliation control.
- Oversee financial operations concerning digital assets, involving wallets, custodial balances, blockchain reconciliations, and crypto treasury activities for accurate accounting treatment and integration into financial reporting and internal controls.
- Monitor capital adequacy, balance sheet efficiency, and financial performance to back growth and regulatory adherence.
- Monitor tax compliance and be well-versed in tax legislation to validate tax obligations and support effective tax planning.
- Enhance internal controls, financial governance, and audit preparedness within the finance function.
- Collaborate closely with Compliance, Risk, Legal, Operations, Product, and Engineering teams to ensure the company's growth and innovation plans are supported by robust financial frameworks and governance.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting (Master/MBA, CMA, or CPA preferred).
- Extensive experience as a CFO, Finance Director, or senior finance executive within regulated financial institutions, fintech, payments companies, or digital asset platforms.
- Proficiency in financial reporting under Brazilian accounting standards and IFRS, managing complex financial reporting environments dealing with high transaction volumes and various asset classes.
- Thorough understanding of regulatory frameworks governing financial institutions regulated by the Banco Central do Brasil, encompassing regulatory reporting requirements, capital adequacy expectations, and financial governance standards.
- Familiarity with fiat payment systems, including bank transfers, payment processors, and local payment networks like PIX, alongside associated reconciliation and financial reporting prerequisites.
- Demonstrated ability to function in highly operational environments, with a proactive approach and direct involvement in payment flows, treasury activities, transaction reconciliations, and daily financial processes.
- Capacity to thrive in an unstructured setting, navigate ambiguity, multi-task effectively, and offer clarity and structure.
- Proficiency in English and Portuguese, both written and verbal.
