Market Surveillance Team Lead

We are in search of an experienced Market Surveillance Team Lead who will be responsible for overseeing a team of analysts dedicated to identifying, investigating, and preventing market manipulation, abusive trading practices, and rule violations on our trading platforms.

This position entails a combination of analytical work and leadership duties, requiring a proactive individual who can lead the team in promoting transparency, fairness, and integrity across crypto, derivatives, and futures markets.

The ideal candidate should possess a solid grasp of trading behavior, regulatory frameworks, and market surveillance systems. They should also have the ability to develop team members and drive operational excellence.

Responsibilities:

• Leadership & Team Management:

• Manage and mentor a team of Market Surveillance Analysts.

• Set performance goals, assign work priorities, and supervise daily tasks.

• Cultivate a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

• Offer regular guidance and feedback to ensure team members achieve performance and development goals.

• Act as the point of escalation for complex cases or critical incidents.

• Market Surveillance & Oversight:

• Supervise real-time monitoring of trading activities on multiple platforms to detect suspicious patterns and conduct market manipulation or abusive behavior.

• Ensure prompt review and escalation of alerts following internal SLAs and regulatory standards.

• Conduct quality assurance checks on analysts’ case work and ensure consistency in investigations.

• Trade Analysis & Investigations:

• Conduct post-trade forensic analysis of flagged transactions.

• Manage end-to-end investigations, including data collection, interviews, report drafting, and regulatory submissions.

• Present key findings and risk insights to senior management and the Chief Regulatory Officer.

• Regulatory Compliance:

• Ensure team activities align with relevant laws and regulations (e.g., SEC, CFTC, FINRA, FCA, MiFID II, DFSA, VARA).

• Support responses to regulatory inquiries, audits, and requests for information.

• Monitor evolving regulatory developments and ensure internal processes maintain compliance standards.

• Process & Policy Development:

• Lead the enhancement and automation of surveillance workflows, alerts, and escalation protocols.

• Collaborate with Technology and Risk teams to improve system capabilities and data quality.

• Contribute to developing and enforcing internal compliance frameworks, KYC/AML standards, and reporting procedures.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration:

• Collaborate with Legal, Risk, and Operations teams to facilitate effective information sharing and alignment.

• Represent the Market Surveillance team in internal committees and interdisciplinary initiatives.

• Coordinate with external regulators and industry bodies as necessary.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Finance, Law, Mathematics, or related fields (Juris Doctor or equivalent preferred).
• 5+ years of experience in trade surveillance, market oversight, or regulatory compliance in financial services or crypto.
• Demonstrated experience managing or mentoring analysts in a fast-paced, data-driven environment.
• Sound understanding of market manipulation types, futures and derivatives trading, and risk management principles.
• Hands-on experience with trade surveillance platforms (e.g., Nasdaq SMARTS, Eventus, Solidus Labs, or equivalent).
• Excellent communication and report-writing skills for clear summarization of complex findings.
• Strong analytical mindset, capable of making decisions under pressure and managing multiple priorities.
• Familiarity with global regulatory frameworks and interest in digital asset compliance advancements.
