Software Engineer
We are collaborating with a well-funded stealth AI company in the early stages, devoted to developing an innovative generation of reasoning technology. The diverse team encompasses expertise from various fields such as AI research, enterprise software, biotech, defense, and aerospace, and focuses on challenging problems encompassing AI, software engineering, and large-scale computation. Currently, the team seeks a Staff Software Engineer to join their London branch and play a pivotal role in transforming cutting-edge research into robust and high-quality software.
This position is ideal for individuals who relish delving deep into technical challenges, whether it involves designing systems, working on algorithms, solving concurrency issues, or ensuring complex workloads are reliable at scale.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborating closely with researchers, infrastructure engineers, and application specialists to bridge the gap between research and production
- Designing and constructing core components of the company's software platform
- Developing backend services, APIs, and supportive infrastructure
- Contributing to algorithms and implementing innovative AI features
- Converting research concepts and prototypes into sustainable, production-ready software
- Designing systems capable of managing extensive reasoning and inference workloads
- Engaging with concurrent, parallel, and distributed systems
- Making architectural decisions pertaining to performance, reliability, and scalability
- Crafting well-tested, maintainable code and participating in engineering standards
- Participating in code reviews and technical design discussions
- Influencing the utilization of AI-assisted development tools across the engineering department
Requirements:
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- Substantial professional experience in software engineering, demonstrating substantial technical ownership
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, such as Rust, Elixir, Python, C, Java, F#, or Haskell
- Profound understanding of software design incorporating functional and object-oriented approaches
- Experience in designing and building concurrent, parallel, or distributed systems
- Familiarity with major cloud platforms like AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure
- Keen interest in software architecture, algorithms, and tackling technically intricate issues
- Practical experience with modern AI coding assistants like Claude or Codex
Nice-to-have Skills:
- Background in AI, machine learning, or scientific computing
- Previous involvement working on inference, optimization, or other computationally intensive work
- Prior experience in early-stage startup environments
- Effective operation in a distributed or remote engineering setup
