Director of AI Data Center Design

Job Overview

The company is seeking a qualified individual to take on the role of Director of AI Data Center Design. This position involves leading the implementation of CleanSpark’s AI data center design initiatives to ensure the delivery of scalable and standardized infrastructure solutions ready for construction. The Director will be responsible for converting established Basis of Design standards into comprehensive engineering designs that encompass electrical, cooling, controls, and network systems.

The Director of AI Data Center Design will supervise design execution across various programs or regions, ensuring compliance with operational needs, feasibility, and deployment schedules. This role is instrumental in propelling CleanSpark’s strategy of modular and replicable infrastructure by promoting uniformity, quality, and efficiency in all design outputs. Collaboration with Product, Power, Construction, and Operations teams is essential to facilitate seamless integration of designs and their successful implementation. Strong technical expertise, system-oriented thinking, and efficiency in a fast-paced growth-oriented setting are key requirements for this role.

Job Duties

Design Leadership & Execution

• Lead the development and delivery of construction-ready design packages across assigned programs, regions, or system scopes.
• Translate BoD requirements into detailed engineering designs aligned with CleanSpark standards.
• Ensure that design outcomes meet expectations for quality, schedule, and performance.

Multi-Disciplinary Systems Integration

• Supervise integration among electrical, cooling, controls, and network systems to achieve comprehensive and optimized infrastructure design.
• Ensure full coordination of designs across disciplines to address feasibility, efficiency, and operational efficiency.

Standardization & Modular Design (DfMA)

• Implement DfMA principles to support the deployment of modular, replicable infrastructure.
• Uphold consistency and adherence to standardized design frameworks to minimize unnecessary customization.

BIM & Design Coordination

• Manage BIM models and digital design environments to ensure precise, coordinated, clash-free design outputs.
• Validate designs to ensure feasibility and seamless execution in the field.

Program & Delivery Alignment

• Partner with Product, Construction, and Operations teams to synchronize design intent with project execution.
• Aid in site planning, phasing, and infrastructure layout decisions within the designated scope.
• Ensure design readiness for factory and site commissioning activities.

Team Leadership & Development

• Guide and nurture a team of engineers and designers to ensure accountability, performance, and consistent delivery.
• Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to foster team growth and development.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to resolve design obstacles and attain alignment across functions.
• Support initiatives for continual improvement to enhance design processes, efficacy, and scalability.

Additional Responsibilities

• Engage in strategic activities related to infrastructure standardization and scaling.
• Assist with special projects and any other assigned duties.

This role necessitates strong leadership, accountability, and precision in operating within a collaborative, dynamic, evolving work environment.

Qualifications

• The role involves up to 50% travel.
• Candidates must be located within an hour of a major U.S. airport for travel purposes.
• Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Architecture, or a relevant technical field, along with 8–10+ years of progressive engineering design experience in data centers, mission-critical infrastructure, or industrial settings.
• Preferred qualifications include experience in data center or high-performance computing environments, familiarity with modular infrastructure design, exposure to commissioning processes, and possession of a PE license or equivalent certification.
