Description

At Anchorage Digital, we are in the process of developing the most advanced digital asset platform designed for institutional involvement in the realm of cryptocurrency.

Anchorage Digital serves institutions by providing a platform that offers custody, staking, trading, governance, settlement, and leading-edge security infrastructure for digital assets. The company is home to the first federally chartered crypto bank in the U.S., Anchorage Digital Bank N.A. Anchorage Digital is supported by prominent institutions such as Andreessen Horowitz, GIC, Goldman Sachs, KKR, and Visa, with a Series D valuation exceeding $3 billion.

As an Engineering Manager at Anchorage Digital, your primary objective is to facilitate the growth of the engineering team. You will be responsible for recruiting top-tier Engineers, guiding and collaborating with team members to help them achieve their career objectives, and implementing processes that maintain a high-performing engineering team.

The crucial elements for measuring impact and involvement as an Engineering Manager include the following areas:

Technical Skills:

  • Refine the engineering roadmap, drive operational excellence, and formulate technology strategy for the team.
  • Demonstrate expertise and sound judgement in resolving complex challenges and delivering scalable solutions.
  • Prioritize the well-being, satisfaction, and personal/professional growth of each team member.

Complexity and Impact of Work:

  • Lead a team of Engineers, overseeing the quality of their work, delivery timelines, impact, and progression.
  • Act as a mentor and advisor, offering coaching and feedback to elevate the skills of the team.

Organizational Knowledge:

  • Assume ownership of execution quality, delivery timelines, processes, impact, and the personal and professional development of a specific team.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers to define product investment priorities, ensuring alignment among product plans, team capacity, technical landscape realities, and team growth strategies.

Communication and Influence:

  • Collaborate with other engineering managers, product management, recruitment, and engineering teams to drive team expansion, retention, and recruitment efforts.
  • Have a substantial influence on both the projects undertaken by Anchorage and the team that contributes to those projects, taking charge of growth planning, recruitment, and performance management of the engineering team.

Suitable Candidates Meet the Following Criteria:

  • Proven track record in managing, mentoring, and leading geographically dispersed teams.
  • Hands-on experience in building sophisticated distributed systems. While Go is predominantly used, the emphasis is on engineering and management skills over knowledge of specific languages or frameworks.
  • Enjoy creating and maintaining services from their inception over extended periods.
  • Strong concern for code quality and testing infrastructure.
  • Focus on enhancing end-user experience and driving business value over adopting 'trendy' technology.
  • Proficiency in computer science fundamentals like concurrency, algorithms, and data structures (Formal CS degree not mandatory).
  • Demonstrate a mix of qualities including creativity, humility, ambition, attention to detail, industriousness, trustworthiness, eagerness to learn, methodical approach, action-oriented mindset, and tenacity.

Bonus Skills (not compulsory but advantageous):

  • Exposure to applied cryptography.
  • Preference for understanding "crypto" as cryptography rather than cryptocurrency.
  • Interest in and awareness of blockchain protocol advancements through maintaining updated knowledge on cryptoasset innovations.
  • Professional experience with Go, Rust, TypeScript, or Solidity.
