Lead Data Engineer

Job Summary:

Immutable, a rapidly expanding game platform aiming to revolutionize the gaming industry, seeks a Lead Data Engineer to join their dynamic team. The successful candidate will drive the development of Immutable Audience, a cutting-edge AI-driven marketing platform designed to enhance player engagement and retention for game studios. As a Lead Data Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the entire data pathway, including data ingestion, transformation, modeling, and delivery to both internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

• Construct a real-time event-streaming platform utilizing Kafka, Flink, and ClickHouse to enable scalable segmentation and targeting
• Define the technical vision for the platform as it grows
• Manage end-to-end warehouse datasets and transformations utilizing BigQuery, dbt, SQL, and Python
• Establish data quality, testing, and observability standards for both streaming and batch processes, optimizing for cost efficiency and low latency as data volumes increase
• Enhance team capabilities through code reviews, mentoring, and fostering best practices
• Infuse AI methodologies into day-to-day operations and the platform itself, integrating coding agents and automated quality checks effectively

Required Qualifications:

• Proficient in data engineering fundamentals, including pipeline development, data modeling, and insightful approach to scalability and fault tolerance
• Command over SQL and Python, with practical experience in production environments
• Experience designing, implementing, and scaling operational data pipelines from end to end, with some exposure to streaming solutions being advantageous
• Strong understanding of modern batch technology stacks, such as dbt, orchestration tools, and cloud-based data warehouses
• Proven expertise in constructing data models conducive to analytical and product-driven use cases that withstand scalability challenges
• Hands-on involvement with event data management at a significant scale, running into billions of rows
• Proficiency in cloud infrastructure tools (AWS or GCP) and infrastructure-as-code practices
• Emphasis on data quality assurance and observability, integrating testing, monitoring, and notification processes routinely
• History of guiding technical decisions through architectural design and mentoring senior team members
• Clear communication skills to articulate data-related trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders
• Strong ownership mentality with pragmatic decision-making abilities
• Comfortable navigating uncertainty, adaptable to changing priorities as product requirements evolve

Preferred Skills:

• Previous accomplishment in deploying streaming systems using tools like Kafka and Flink, preferably paired with an OLAP technology like ClickHouse
• Background in gaming, advertising technology, or marketing technology event data management
• Track record of leveraging AI to optimize productivity and elevate team proficiency in AI concepts
