Market Surveillance Team Lead, Bulgaria

Job Summary:

We are in need of a Market Surveillance Team Lead to manage a team of analysts responsible for identifying, analyzing, and preventing market manipulation, abusive trading practices, and rule violations on our trading platforms.

This role requires a hands-on approach to analysis and leadership skills to steer the team in ensuring transparency, fairness, and integrity in crypto, derivatives, and futures markets.

The ideal candidate should possess a deep understanding of trading behaviors, regulatory landscapes, and market surveillance systems, along with the ability to nurture talent and drive operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Leadership & Team Management

Lead, guide, and develop a team of Market Surveillance Analysts.

Establish performance objectives, manage work priorities, and oversee daily task allocation.

Encourage a culture of responsibility, collaboration, and continuous enhancement.

Offer regular guidance and feedback to ensure team members meet performance targets and developmental goals.

Act as the escalation point for intricate cases or urgent situations.

• Market Surveillance & Oversight

Supervise the real-time monitoring of trading activities across various platforms to uncover suspicious patterns, market manipulation, and abusive behaviors.

Ensure prompt analysis and escalation of alerts in accordance with internal SLAs and regulatory guidelines.

Conduct quality assurance assessments of analysts' work and ensure consistency in investigations.

• Trade Analysis & Investigations

Lead and oversee post-trade forensic evaluations of flagged transactions.

Manage end-to-end investigations, including data collection, interviews, report drafting, and regulatory submissions.

Present key findings and risk assessments to senior management and the Chief Regulatory Officer.

• Regulatory Compliance

Ensure that team operations comply with relevant laws and regulations such as SEC, CFTC, FINRA, FCA, MiFID II, DFSA, and VARA.

Support responses to regulatory queries, audits, and information requests.

Stay updated on evolving regulatory changes and ensure internal processes are aligned with compliance standards.

• Process & Policy Development

Lead the enhancement and automation of surveillance workflows, alerts, and escalation protocols.

Collaborate with Technology and Risk teams to bolster system capabilities and data accuracy.

Contribute to crafting and enforcing internal compliance structures, KYC/AML standards, and reporting protocols.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration

Engage with Legal, Risk, and Operations teams to maintain effective information exchange and alignment.

Represent the Market Surveillance team in internal committees and inter-departmental projects.

Collaborate with external regulators and industry associations as needed.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Finance, Law, Mathematics, or related fields (Juris Doctor or equivalent preferred).
• 5+ years of experience in trade surveillance, market oversight, or regulatory compliance in financial services or crypto.
• Demonstrated experience in managing or mentoring analysts or investigators in a fast-paced, data-driven setting.
• Profound understanding of market manipulation typologies, futures and derivatives trading, and risk management principles.
• Hands-on experience with trade surveillance platforms like Nasdaq SMARTS, Eventus, Solidus Labs, or equivalent.
• Strong communication and report-writing skills with the ability to convey complex findings clearly.
• Robust analytical mindset, with a proven capacity to make decisions under pressure and juggle multiple priorities.
• Familiarity with global regulatory frameworks and a keen interest in the changing landscape of digital asset compliance.
