Protocol Engineer, Moca Network
** at Moca Network**
Moca Network, a flagship project by Animoca Brands, is dedicated to building chain-agnostic digital identity infrastructure for the open internet. This project aims to offer users one universal account that encompasses their assets, identity, and reputation across multiple ecosystems. The main product developed by Moca Network is AIR Kit, a digital identity infrastructure enabling Web2 and Web3 projects to establish a universal embedded account for users to manage digital assets, identity, and reputation data. This also grants users access to a variety of DeFi and consumer services offered by Moca Network's partners, empowering large user base apps to create an app ecosystem with embedded blockchain features.
We are seeking a Protocol Engineer who will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the core software of the Moca Chain. The role will emphasize reliability, performance, and identity-specific features of our L1. This position entails working on client/runtime components, networking, cross-chain identity flows, and integrating zero-knowledge proof verification to enable private verification at scale.
Responsibilities:
- Develop features in the node/client such as execution/runtime, mempool, sync, and networking.
- Implement identity-centric primitives like credential issuance/verification hooks.
- Enhance state I/O, snapshots, pruning, and fast/warp sync for improved RPC throughput and latency.
- Integrate zero-knowledge proof verification within the protocol.
- Support zkTLS proof ingestion and verification for web-origin attestations.
- Contribute to the chain-agnostic identity oracle, designing message formats, replay/order protection mechanisms, and finality handling.
- Build and maintain light-client/optimistic verification paths or integrate with ecosystem standards.
- Design relayer and operator tooling with clear incentives and observability.
- Engineer decentralized data storage integration for privacy-preserved credentials.
- Optimize RocksDB/LevelDB and state commitment schemes for high throughput identity verification.
- Deploy and manage public/private testnets, plan releases, and conduct canary rollouts.
- Enhance test coverage including unit, integration, fuzzing, and differential tests across client versions.
Requirements:
- Proficiency in systems engineering using Go, Rust, or similar languages with solid concurrency/async, profiling, and performance tuning skills.
- Experience in building backend or protocol-adjacent infrastructure for production environments.
- Familiarity with blockchain client internals like EVM/WASM runtime and other relevant technologies.
- Comfortable working with Web3 interfaces, RPCs, node configuration, and validator/sequencer operations.
- Strong engineering practices including testing, code reviews, CI/CD, reproducible builds, and clear documentation.
- Security-oriented mindset with knowledge of key aspects such as input validation and DoS prevention.
Nice-to-haves:
- Experience with zero-knowledge integration or identity/credentials standards.
- Exposure to cross-chain technologies and database/storage tuning in high-throughput chains.
- Contributions to open-source blockchain clients or identity/zk tooling.
The Perks of Joining Animoca Brands:
- A dynamic workspace with a diverse team from over 15 nationalities.
- Incentives in the Web3 space to align your success with innovative projects.
- Direct impact and rapid implementation of ideas in a flat organizational structure.
