Role Overview
Wintermute seeks a Quantitative Researcher Intern for a Summer 2026 position. The ideal candidate should possess robust quantitative skills coupled with proficiency in Python programming. As an intern at Wintermute, you will play a key role in advancing the firm's quantitative operations, spanning different technologies, trading platforms, and products within the digital assets sector. Collaborating closely with researchers, traders, and developers, you will be involved in strategy formulation, algorithm refinement, and overall enhancement of algorithmic trading activities. Mentorship from seasoned professionals, including the founders and management team, will be readily available to guide and support you as you delve into your responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to enhancing high-frequency trading strategies.
- Utilize statistical methodologies to develop short-term signals across various trading instruments and technologies.
- Lead research initiatives to optimize signals and parameters through backtesting on a diverse range of trading products.
- Analyze historical market data meticulously to identify market microstructure patterns and potential trading opportunities.
- Conduct simulations to model market behavior for both liquid and illiquid assets.
- Enhance and maintain supporting infrastructure using Python.
Required Skills
- Educational background in quantitative fields such as Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or Physics. Postgraduate qualifications are advantageous but not mandatory.
- Advanced proficiency in Python programming.
- Expertise in statistics and probability theory.
- Hands-on experience with machine learning techniques.
Quant Trader Track
- Proficiency in market making, signal design, and HFT/MFT strategy implementation.
Quant Research Track
- Experience in developing machine learning algorithms, establishing automated recalibration and testing pipelines, integrating version control systems, and visualizing training progress.
Desirable Qualifications
- Previous exposure to market making, signal design, and HFT strategy development.
- Strong track record in global mathematics, Kaggle competitions, and programming challenges.
- Proficiency in C++ programming.
- In-depth knowledge of Machine Learning.
