Staff Back-End Engineer

As a valuable member of our team, you will play an integral role as a Staff Back-End Engineer within our Cryptocurrency Trading Platform team. Your responsibilities will include leading the development of technology direction, collaborating closely with trading and quantitative analysis teams. You will work on designing and implementing systems to meet real-time trading needs, enhance market efficiency, and enable sophisticated trading strategies. The role is based in London within a diverse international team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and optimize low-latency trading systems in Rust to empower algorithmic trading strategies and facilitate real-time execution in the ever-evolving crypto market.
- Take charge of designing and executing trading algorithms, with a focus on enhancing liquidity management, supporting price discovery, and minimizing slippage in dynamic market settings.
- Advocate for best practices in software engineering, ensuring the development of clean, scalable, and sustainable code to address immediate performance needs and long-term viability.
- Collaborate with various teams to swiftly adapt the trading platform to new data, market conditions, and business requirements.
- Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment on engineering solutions and business objectives.
- Ensure the reliability, scalability, and availability of trading systems, emphasizing performance and rigorous testing.
- Influence technical decision-making and provide valuable inputs in high-level architectural discussions to align solutions with scalability, performance, and security goals.
- Uphold technical excellence within the team, driving efforts to enhance development processes, code quality, and overall system performance through knowledge sharing and best practices.
- Prioritize rapid iteration of trading algorithms to maximize profitability, minimize risk, and ensure swift execution, while swiftly adapting to volatile market conditions.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Extensive background in Rust and/or C++, focusing on developing high-performance, low-latency systems in complex environments like cryptocurrency trading or financial services.
- Proven leadership experience, demonstrating technical excellence, mentoring engineers, and fostering skill development.
- Strong experience in trading, specifically cryptocurrency trading, with expertise in market-making, arbitrage strategies, and rapid order execution in fast-paced markets.
- Demonstrated track record in quickly iterating on algorithmic strategies, adjusting to market dynamics, and optimizing real-time performance.
- Inherent curiosity, with a passion for learning new technologies.
- Proficiency in Python for backtesting, scripting, and analysis, along with SQL for managing large-scale data systems.
- Proficient in performance optimization, bottleneck identification, and throughput enhancement in high-frequency, low-latency real-time systems.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to tackle complex challenges and drive technical solutions forward.
- Experience with containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) and deploying scalable, high-performance trading systems in cloud environments (AWS).
