Overview

We are seeking a skilled professional to take on the position of a Database Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and advancing production database environments with a focus on stability, performance, and reliability.

Your duties will include working across cloud and hybrid infrastructure, supporting core database operations, addressing production issues, and contributing to automation projects. You will collaborate closely with application and infrastructure teams while enhancing operational consistency through Infrastructure as Code and modern deployment practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and manage production and non-production database environments in cloud and hybrid infrastructure settings.
• Monitor database performance, health, and availability, promptly responding to alerts and incidents.
• Conduct regular maintenance tasks such as backups, restores, patching, and index optimization.
• Troubleshoot database performance issues related to queries, indexing, locking, and resource utilization.
• Assist in database provisioning, configuration, and upgrades.
• Implement secure database access and permissions according to best practices.
• Collaborate with other teams to support deployments and incident resolution.
• Utilize Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) for provisioning and configuration tasks.
• Enable CI/CD workflows for efficient database operations using tools like GitLab.
• Document processes, incidents, and configurations to maintain a comprehensive knowledge base.
• Contribute to automation initiatives to streamline workflows and ensure consistency across environments.

Required Skills

• 3-6 years of experience in database administration or engineering.
• Proficient with Microsoft SQL Server in production environments.
• Strong knowledge of backup and recovery strategies, including testing and validation.
• Ability to troubleshoot database performance issues like query tuning, indexing, and migrations.
• Experience managing live production systems independently.
• Familiarity with high availability, disaster recovery, and database security practices.

Desired Skills

• Experience with AWS, especially RDS services.
• Understanding of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
• Ability to support CI/CD pipelines, with knowledge of GitLab as a bonus.
• Basic scripting skills in PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
• Exposure to additional databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MariaDB.
• Familiarity with MongoDB or Snowflake.
• Proficiency in working within hybrid cloud environments.
• Knowledge of automation and infrastructure standardization practices.
• Experience in high-availability or regulated settings like SaaS or finance.
• Interest in transitioning towards roles in platform engineering or cloud infrastructure.
