Position Overview:
Join our Reporting & Statements team as a founding engineer, where you will be responsible for designing systems that support the delivery of every financial report and statement, ranging from monthly reports to custom client requests. You will be instrumental in developing automated frameworks to ensure accuracy and consistency in all client-facing financial information.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Skills:
- Design and implement RESTful APIs and GraphQL endpoints for serving financial data to both internal product teams and external clients.
- Develop a service integration layer connecting backend services to the data platform, ensuring seamless data flow and robust error handling.
Complexity and Impact of Work:
- Collaborate in shaping architectural decisions regarding the API and service delivery infrastructure as a founding engineer.
- Adhere to high standards of accuracy, performance, and scalability while meeting tight deadlines for delivering reporting products.
Organizational Knowledge:
- Work closely with Data Engineers to establish data contracts and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for seamless integration between the data engine and API layer.
- Partner with Product teams to design APIs that facilitate self-service access to financial data.
Communication and Influence:
- Advocate for best practices in API design and service reliability in collaboration with various engineering teams.
- Contribute to technical roadmap planning and foster a supportive and collaborative culture within the engineering team.
Qualifications:
- 5-7+ years of experience in backend systems development, with a proven track record in designing and deploying production APIs and services that handle complex business logic at scale.
- Demonstrated expertise in the design and operation of cloud-native services, focusing on reliability, observability, and maintainability.
- Proficiency in Go or Python with practical experience in building RESTful APIs while striking a balance between flexibility and performance.
- Experience in developing backend services that interact with databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, BigQuery) and knowledge of query optimization, connection pooling, and data consistency patterns.
- Previous exposure to cloud platforms (preferably GCP) and experience in deploying and managing services, including containerization, monitoring, and incident response.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with GraphQL and understanding the differences between GraphQL and REST for varying use cases.
- Familiarity with financial domain knowledge from roles in fintech, banking, or related sectors where data accuracy and auditability are paramount.
- Background in collaborating with data engineering teams and knowledge of modern data stack patterns such as data warehouses, orchestration, and Change Data Capture (CDC).
- An emotional connection to the soundtrack of Hamilton, which delves into the foundation of a novel financial system.
