DESCRIPTION:
The Data Engineer role offers an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join Foundry, a subsidiary of Digital Currency Group, one of the most active investors in the blockchain industry. As the Data Engineer, reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be a crucial technical leader responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing our data infrastructure pipelines.
This is a unique chance to join a small, professional entrepreneurial team supported by a key player in the rapidly growing crypto industry.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Focus on managing data infrastructure and pipelines. You will collaborate closely with data analysts to comprehend data requirements and ensure the availability, quality, and reliability of our data assets.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Architect and direct the development of a robust and scalable data collection infrastructure, encompassing various protocols.
- Oversee the data collection, research, and analysis of operational and blockchain data.
- Drive initiatives to improve data system performance and reliability, as well as innovate and optimize internal data practices to address gaps and inefficiencies.
- Ensure flawless data accuracy and completeness during transfer and loading into enterprise repositories.
- Lead the establishment and maintenance of security and integrity controls.
- Create and oversee data warehouse management policies, procedures, and standards.
- Lead cross-functional project teams in analyzing business requirements, conducting complex data analysis, and supporting user acceptance testing for diverse data needs.
- Organize and interpret data trends effectively, unveiling patterns and insights.
- Work closely with crypto product managers, business analysts, and engineers to fulfill data requirements.
- Develop advanced scripts for automating complex accounting and data processes.
- Lead scripting and scraping projects for data modeling preparation.
- Optimize and refine data architecture for seamless retrieval.
- Enhance data resiliency, redundancy, and recovery mechanisms.
- Design and oversee the management of comprehensive data lakes and data marts for infrastructure data.
- Develop and implement advanced data solutions to drive infrastructure information gathering initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications; Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, data engineering, information technology, or related fields.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering with a strong track record of delivering complex data solutions or equivalent experience.
- Expertise in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala, with a preference for Python.
- Profound understanding of database systems (SQL, NoSQL) and advanced data modeling concepts.
- Proficiency in big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Kafka) and distributed computing.
- Strong experience working with cloud platforms, especially AWS, and containerization technologies, with a preference for Docker.
- Strong experience using Snowflake data warehouse.
- Strong experience with data transformation tools like dbt (data build tool).
- Proficiency in job scheduling and orchestration tools such as Prefect, Dagster, or Airflow.
- Familiarity with data integration tools like Fivetran, Stitch, Hevo, Airbyte.
- Experience with Terraform for managing data infrastructure.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to lead technical projects.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills with the capability to work across diverse teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications in AWS Certified Data Analytics, Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer, or Microsoft Certified.
- Experience with advanced data warehousing solutions like Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, or Snowflake, as well as expertise in data warehousing best practices.
- Familiarity with machine learning and artificial intelligence concepts and tools.
- Expertise in data governance frameworks and data compliance regulations such as GDPR or HIPAA.
- Proficiency in DevOps practices, continuous integration, and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
- Previous experience in a startup environment, understanding the fast-paced and dynamic nature of startups.
- Experience working with global teams.
