This role is for a Financial Analyst to join our Finance team in Portugal. As our company, revenue, and team scale, we are seeking someone who excels when faced with challenges, possesses keen attention to detail, and strives to create a substantial impact across our organization in a dynamic position. Your duties will entail managing all financial activities specific to the Portuguese entity, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, as well as overseeing accounts receivable and accounts payable. Additionally, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with tax and fiscal obligations, maintaining accurate and timely financial records in line with local regulations and international accounting standards. You will collaborate closely with various members of the Finance Team, offering financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making. Furthermore, you will engage with external accountants, auditors, and regulatory bodies to ensure adherence to all statutory requirements. This role provides an opportunity to gain exposure to the fast-paced startup environment in a constantly evolving industry, where your contributions will be essential.

Key Technical Skills:
- Collaborate in month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close operations for the Portuguese legal entity and other group entities
- Execute day-to-day accounting tasks, such as journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and preparation of monthly and quarterly workpapers for payroll and equity-related accounts
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data according to Portuguese GAAP (SNC) and US GAAP
- Prepare monthly intercompany reconciliations and resolve outstanding balances promptly
- Uphold balance sheet account integrity through reconciliation preparation, verification of account activity, and balance validation
- Address accounts payable efficiently by analyzing, investigating, and resolving invoice processing issues
- Aid local accountants in guaranteeing general ledger accuracy under Portuguese GAAP (SNC) and reviewing reconciliations between US GAAP and Portuguese GAAP
- Assist in coordinating internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations
- Stay updated on tax law changes and regulations, and communicate potential implications
- Identify opportunities to optimize accounting processes and implement effective controls to manage financial risks
Complexity and Impact of Work:
- Collaborate with stakeholders to comprehend the Company’s risks and controls, contributing to establishing a robust control environment to support our expanding business
- Tackle complex accounting issues where problems are intricate and standard guidelines may not directly apply, such as crypto transaction recording
- Display effective problem-solving skills and decisiveness in uncertain and ambiguous situations to drive business progress
- Ensure accountability for accounting policies and procedures by reviewing substantial entries before finalizing financial reporting to ensure high-quality output and seamless execution
- Lead or participate in pursuing financial funds and incentives furnished by the Portuguese Government or the European Union, leveraging opportunities to improve the company’s financial posture and advance growth initiatives
Organizational Knowledge:
- Develop a profound understanding of Anchorage’s strategy and various business lines, actively engaging with diverse groups to comprehend historical transactions and future strategy implementation requirements
- Collaborate with Finance team members and cross-functional peers to outline plans that meet business needs and foster a shared comprehension of Anchorage’s demands
- Address complex accounting challenges necessitating an extensive understanding of the company
- Grasp the intricacies of our business, particularly in Portugal, and stay informed about incentives provided by the Portuguese Government and/or the European Union
Communication and Influence:
- Convey complex topics effectively to varied audiences with clarity and credibility
- Cultivate productive relationships with stakeholders, including team members, managers, cross-functional collaborators, and external partners
- Organize and execute cross-team projects and goals effectively, leveraging relationships and resources across departments to tackle issues
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Holds a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field
- Has at least 4 years of experience in financial management, reporting, accounting, or auditing, preferably in multinational corporations
- Proficient in Portuguese GAAP
- Demonstrates proficiency in financial systems and software such as Netsuite, SAP, Hyperion, etc.
- Possesses excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Exhibits strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling extensive collaboration across all organizational levels
- Proficient in English and Portuguese (both written and spoken)
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a Big 4 firm
- Certified Chartered Accountant (Contabilista Certificado) or equivalent
- Knowledgeable about evolving blockchain and crypto innovations
- Familiarity with tax compliance and reporting protocols in Portugal
- Experience in implementing ERP systems like Netsuite, SAP, or Oracle
- Exposure to standard Portuguese payroll reports
