THE ROLE
Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Payroll Specialist will be responsible for payroll processing and overseeing various general accounting tasks. This position is based in our office in Etobicoke, ON and offers a hybrid work schedule.
YOUR IMPACT
Payroll:
• Handle end-to-end payroll processing for Canadian and international locations, including tax obligations and government correspondences. • Manage earnings, expenses, deductions, and tax withholdings in accordance with company policies and regulations. • Prepare annual government reports, such as T4 slips and EHT returns. • Ensure all payroll activities comply with Canadian/international regulations and stay informed of any changes to labor laws. • Address employee queries related to payroll promptly and clearly. • Keep employees informed about payroll policies and procedures.
General Accounting:
• Oversee Account Payable and vendor relationships. • Reconcile daily cash balances and escalate outstanding issues with Finance and CIT partners. • Process various transactions and ensure accuracy and completeness of the general ledger. • Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing procedures. • Maintain and update accounting policies in line with relevant guidelines. • Ensure compliance with government reporting and tax requirements. • Collaborate on external audit engagements and provide necessary support. • Conduct additional analyses and ad-hoc tasks upon request.
THIS IS YOU
• Minimum of 3 years of end-to-end payroll processing experience. • Thorough understanding of Canadian payroll and tax compliance. • Experience in general accounting for 3+ years. • Certification in Canadian or Global Payroll is advantageous. • Proficiency in ADP, Ceridian, and Business Central ERP. • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. • Proactive in proposing and implementing process improvements. • Comfortable handling sensitive and confidential information. • Experience in FinTech or Cryptocurrency accounting is a plus.
